" I ask the Council to ensure that Camino Real Playhouse remains a vibrant part of historic downtown San Juan Capistrano and renew the license agreement under the same terms and conditions that have benefited all of us in San Juan Capistrano for the past quarter of a century." This theatre is so much a part of our lives. We come into San Juan several times a week for the classes there. We do quite a lot of shopping around town at merchants, and dine in the restaurants often near the playhouse. Were it not for the playhouse and Acting Academy, my daughter would not be the confident rising star she is today. Please keep community theatre alive in San Juan! I understand the license for Camino Real Playhouse is up for renewal. I would like to add my support and ask that the Council please renew it and ensure the Playhouse remains a vibrant part of our historic downtown under the same terms and conditions that have benefited all of us in the area. Camino Real Playhouse has made a significant contribution to this town for over 25 years and I hope it continues. We are very lucky to have the talent it draws. It contributes to the arts and culture and quality of life in our area and has contributed to cultural tourism by bringing in visitors to our city who enjoy its high quality productions, such as South Pacific and Calamity Jane, the Musical. I have had the pleasure of performing in 8 productions with many extremely talented people who devote numerous voluntary hours for the benefit of serving the SJC community. The Playhouse represents what is best in San Juan, and what is best in its people. Please continue to provide its use at the affordable terms for all to enjoy. I have been performing in and assisting with technical duties for shows at Camino Real Playhouse over the last 4 years. I am grateful for the opportunities provided by the playhouse and by Tom and Beverly. They gave me my first break here in Southern California, so although I have performed at other playhouses in Orange County, I consider Camino Real Playhouse my home theater. I would be heartbroken if they were unable to continue providing quality theatrical productions at affordable prices. The city council needs to be aware that community theater isn't just about theater. It is also about community - especially at Camino Real Playhouse. The first time I walked through the door there, I was greeted with heartfelt smiles and genuine kindness. I have made several lasting friends over the past few years of my involvement with this group and I hope to be afforded the opportunity to continue to make more. In fact, I recently attended the wedding of one of the other cast members from my first show there. There is also a youth group at Camino Real Playhouse - Acting Academy for Kids. It allows children the opportunity to explore their interest in the performing arts while providing parents the peace of mind to know that their children are in a safe place and learning skills that will help them later in life. But, Camino Real Playhouse isn't just about feelings and friendship. I strongly believe that without the playhouse, San Juan Capistrano would not have done as well financially over the last twenty five years. I know of several people from other areas - both in California and out - who would not have brought their tourist dollars to your fair city if not for Camino Real Playhouse. I, myself, have had people come down from Las Vegas to see shows there. Whenever there is a show, there are usually also pre -show dinners and post -show cocktails that contribute to the local economy. That is in addition to what is spent by the performers during the weeks of rehearsals leading up to each show. Something else that should be considered is their annual Shakespeare in the Park show. I imagine that alone must generate quite a bit of revenue for the city. I urge the city council to renew the license under the same terms and conditions currently in effect so Camino Real Playhouse can continue to operate and contribute to the local community and economy. We moved to San Juan September of 2014. Since this time my son has performed in three plays at the Camino Real Playhouse. He is a changed person. Less shy, more outgoing, interested in people, less interested in video games, phones, etc...This place is great. The thought that there would even be a consideration to make it more difficult for the ability of our youth to take advantage of something so important, unique, and special is absurd. These places are where our future leaders are truly born. Thank you, Kevin... 9 own Nwit Onshore Technologies, Inc.
