Forryars the Camino Real Playhouse has provided the residents of San
Juan with ArRwYominique opportunities in the performing arts, ultimately
becMIN an integral component of the small town flavor and fabric that is San Juan
Capistrano. These traditions include an annual series of high quality dramatic, comedic,
and musical productions, an annual Shakespeare Festival in Historic Town Center Park,
world premiere productions of dramatic works bringing new playwrights to the stage,
classes in various aspects of the performing arts, monthly standup comedy
performances, and a burgeoning children's theatre program under the management of
Acting Academy for Kids, which annually provides one of a kind educational and
recreational opportunities for thousands of children from throughout the South Orange
County area.
Live theatre and performing arts has been a part of our history, even spawning a
theatre specialty, American Melodrama, which the Playhouse brings to life every March
during Swallows Days, preserving a bit of history with original works based on San Juan
Capistrano in earlier times. The Playhouse programs and productions annually bring
over 10,000 people to San Juan Capistrano, and contribute in excess of $500,000 to the
local economy by the ancillary restaurant visits, shopping excursions, and other
activities patrons enjoy during their visits to the City. As one of the oldest continuing
institutions in the City, the Playhouse looks forward to many more years of enriching the
historical texture in a community of which we are a proud member.
Generally, Playhouse models are fully funded or receive funding from the city
they reside in. San Juan Capistrano's Camino Real Playhouse is the only Playhouse in
Orange County that is completely self-funded.
Pursuant to the terms of Section 12 of the License Agreement of October 7,
2008, between South Orange County Community Theatre, (dba Camino Real
Playhouse) and the San Juan Capistrano Community Redevelopment Agency (now
operating as the Successor Agency) , the Camino Real Playhouse hereby requests a
renewal of the License Agreement for another 7 year period under the same terms and
conditions for the continued use of the Camino Real Playhouse building located at
31776 EI Camino Real, San Juan Capistrano, following the expiration of the current
License Agreement on October 7, 2015.
The Camino Real Playhouse brings business and commerce to San Juan
Capistrano, provides quality entertainment in a manner that respects and retains the
quaint and historic texture of our town, all while efficiently utilizing a volunteer workforce,
running its business at a narrow break-even. For all reasons aforementioned, we look
forward to a prompt renewal of our License Agreement with the City under the same
terms and conditions that have served us both so well for over a quarter of a century.

All your Christmases will live again in the magic of Dylan Thomas' poetic
language. "I can never remember whether it snowed for six days and six
nights when I was twelve or twelve days and twelve nights when I was six."
Dylan Thomas universalizes the very essence of Christmas as any
child anywhere might perceive it. The message of the play is the story of
Christmas Day itself, from its quiet, magical beginning full of thrilling
expectations to the end when the boy Dylan creeps up to the bed, replete
with the joy of a perfect Christmas. Share this magical Holiday experience!
