Subject: Please read this email concerning the Camino Real Playhouse!
To whoever it may concern,
Oscar Wilde once said, "I regard the theater as the greatest of all art forms, the most immediate way
in which a human being can share with another the sense of what it is to be a human being." I have
always loved acting. Its one of those things that you can do your whole entire life, no matter how
young or old you are. Theatre allows people to feel things. It transports them, into a dazzling world
of make believe, and yet, amidst the pretend and extravagances, it teaches us lessons that we can
apply to our own lives. It forces us to think, and it encourages us to believe. And despite the fact
that TV and film offers you this same experience, there is nothing better than live theatre. In live
theatre, the audience gets the chance to sit up close and see the actors, sets, costumes, props, and
watch the story unfold before their very eyes. This is a type of art that can never be replaced, so
instead, it is being fazed out altogether. Many schools do not offer theatre anymore, including my
own. Its sad to think that much of society today does experience live theatre as much as they once
did, and that most kids my age would much rather stay at home and play video games or watch a
movie instead of going to see a show. But can we blame them? No we can't, because theatre is
slowly becoming a dying art, and its not their fault that its not as accessible as it once was. Theatre
does not need an audience as much as an audience needs theater. But as we sit around here debating
the importance of theatre, playhouses all over the world are being taken down because everyone
else is too busy talking about how sad it is that theatre is being fazed out. In order to save the things
you love, you have to take action. As part of the playhouse, and as a member of the theater
community, I feel obliged to tell you how much the Camino Real Playhouse means to not only me,
and not only the city of San Juan Capistrano, but to the theatre world as a whole. Because, no
matter how big or small a theatre is, it still has the ability to transport and immerse us. The Camino
Real Playhouse has been a much loved attraction in San Juan Capistrano and is more than just a
theatre. Its a place to learn, work, laugh, cry, smile, and a place to live. As a 16 year old girl, I can't
even begin to describe how much I've learned from Camino Real Playhouse and the people who fill
it. We truly are a family. From the actors, directors, producers, writers, crew, costumers, set
designers, and more, we are all one big family, with one direct purpose: to make people feel.
Because I firmly believe that to live, you must be able to feel ... feel the heartbreak, the joy, the
sadness, the glee, and every other emotion that makes us human. So, in conclusion:
"I ask the Council to ensure that Camino Real Playhouse remains a vibrant part of historic
downtown San Juan Capistrano and renew the license agreement under the same terms and
conditions that have benefited all of us in San Juan Capistrano for the past quarter of a century."
Sincerely,
Kayla Carlson

Subject: PLEASE RENEW CAMINO REAL PLAYHOUSE LICENSE AGREEMENT!
"I ask the Council to ensure that Camino Real Playhouse remains a vibrant part of historic downtown San Juan
Capistrano and renew the license agreement under the same terms and conditions that have benefited all of
us in San Juan Capistrano for the past quarter of a century."This institution has provided quality entertainment
to not only SJC residents but to many others who come to our City to enjoy the Playhouse, the environs of our
wonderful downtown area, and the many restaurants that are close by to the Playhouse. Our town needs this
type of activity to thrive. Forcing the Playhouse to find another location would not only jeopardize this
institution but also reduce revenues to downtown merchants and restaurants. As a resident of SJC for 42 years
I respectfully request that you renew the Playhouse's license agreement.
Thank you
Charles Rea
