ORDINANCE NO. 104
AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF SAN JUAN CAPISTRANO
AMENDING ORDINANCE NO. 34 RELATING TO SIGNS.
The City Council of the City of San Juan Capistrano does ordain as follows:
SECTION 1. Subparagraph 4 of Section 202 of Ordinance No. 34 is hereby
amended to read as follows:
"4. Any outdoor advertising sign, regardless of square footage, dis.
playing lettering, painting, emblems, figures, words, numerals or pictures
erected for the purpose of making anything known, advertixed or displayed,
and such signs being remote from the location where its advertised product is
on sale, may not be erected or maintained in or on a location within the City
of San Juan Capistrano without the approval of the City Planning Commission.
Such request must be presented in Variance Form."
SECTION 2. Ordinance No. 34 is hereby amended by adding thereto a
section numbered 301A to read as follows:
SECTION 301A. NONCONFORMING BILLBOARDS.
(1) Outdoor Advertising Displays as defined herein in existence on
April 19, 1961 (the date of incorporation of the City of San Juan Capistrano)
which do not conform to the provisions of Ordinance No. 34, as amended, and
which have an appraised value of two hundred dollars ($200) or more shall be
permitted to continue until June 30, 1965; unless, however, a land use
variance is granted during this period.
(2) Outdoor Advertising Displays as defined herein in existence on
April 19, 1961 (the date of incorporation of the City of San Juan Capistrano)
which do not conform to the provisions of Ordinance No. 34, as amended, and
which have an appraised value of less than $200 shall be removed immediately
following the effective date of this ordinance.
(3) Appraisal of the value of any such billboards shall be made by the
Chief Building Inspector of the County of Orange or his authorized representative.
Any such appraisal shall be subject to review if requested by the owner of such
billboard or if requested by any person aggrievedby the decision of the Chief
Building Inspector or his authorized representative.
SECTION 3. The City Clerk shall certify to the passage and adopting of
this ordinance by the City Council of the City of San Juan Capistrano at a
regular meeting held on the 12th day of April, 1965, and shall cause the same
to be published in the Coastline Dispatch within fifteen days after its
passage.
