Minutes of the Adjourned Regular Meeting of the City Council of San Juan Capistrano
JUNE 4. 1965
The adjourned regular meeting of the City Council was called to order at
7:30 P.M. by Mayor Don Durnford.
The pledge of allegiance was recited. The invocation was given by John
H. Dawson, City Attorney.
In the absence of the City Clerk, the Mayor appointed the City Attorney to
act as clerk. Upon roll call, Councilmen present were: William A. Bathgate,
Carl E. Buchheim, Edward S. Chermak and Don Durnford. Councilmen absent were:
Antonio M. (Tony) Olivares.
The Mayor declared that this was the time and place for the opening of
bids for a non-exclusive franchise to operate Community Antenna Television (CATV).
Two bids were received and opened: (1) Jack Kent Cook, Inc., Division of American
Cable Vision Company, and (2) Miller and Frost.
Mr. Wayne R. Hauser of Jack Kent Cook, Inc, and John R. Frost of Miller and
Frost participated in discussion of the bids and answered questions of the
Council. After lengthy discussion, the following motion was made:
Councilman Chermak moved, seconded by Councilman Bathgate, that the bids
be accepted and submitted to the technical staff for review, preferably at the
next regular meeting. Motion carried unanimously.
Land Use Variance No. 65_111. The Planning Commission recommended approval
of the temporary use of a house trailer on the Miles Nesbitt property subject
to conditions.
Councilman Buchheim moved, seconded by Councilman Bathgate, that the
recommendation of the Planning Commission on Land Use Variance No. 65_111 be
upheld. Motion carried unanimously.
The Council considered the necessity of follow-up on its former reso-
lution requesting the Division of Highways to complete the Camino Las Ramblas -
Coast Highway _ San Diego Freeway interchange. After full discussion,
Councilman Chermak moved, seconded by Councilman Bathgate, that a letter
from the Mayor to the Division of Highways be hand -carried, in cooperation
with the County Road Commissioner, to the District Engineer in Los Angeles,
together with a new resolution pointing to the economic necessity to the
City in having the Camino Las Ramblas - Coast Highway _ San Diego Freeway inter-
change completed forthwith.
There being no further business, the meeting was adjuurned at 10:23 P.M.
