Councilman Durnford made motion to adjourn to "Executive Session". "EXECUTIVE SESSION" Those Councilmen present considered and discussed the factors regarding the appointment of a councilman to fill the vacancy created by Eric Cliff's resign- ation'and the new obligation of selecting members to serve on the Planning Commission. Thompson City Clerk -Administrator These are the official proceedings of the Regular Meeting of the City Council of the City of San Juan Capistrano, held on the 27th day of April, 1964. APR27 'cH "SPECIAL MEETING" MAY 4, 1964 The meeting was called to order by Mayor William A. Bathgate at 7:40 P. M. Councilmen present were: Carl E. Buchheim, Don Durnford, Antonio M. (Tony) Olivares and William A. Bathgate. The meeting was called to the purpose of appointing a member tD the City Council to fill the vacancy created by the resignation of Eric F. Cliff. The various councilmen submitted names of persons they felt should be considered potential appointees. Discussion followed. By motion of Councilman Durnford, duly seconded by Councilman Buchheim, it was moved that Edward S. Chermak be appointed to the City Council to fill the unexpired MAY 4 '�q term of Councilman Eric F. Cliff, who resigned as of April 30, 1964. The motion was carried by a unanimous vote. Mr. Edward S. Chermak was contacted by telephone and requested to be present for the remainder of the meeting to discuss the possible appointments of member- ship to the Planning Commission; the number of members; and the terms each would serve. Edward S. Chermak arrived. Discussion regarding the Planning Commission followed. It was the consensus of opinion of the City Council that five members only be appointed and that two (2) would serve for four (4) year terms and the other three (3) draw lots for a term of 3 years, 2 years and 1 year. The meeting adjourned at 9:50 P. M. 01 Ernes A.
