JANUARY 17, 1966
The meeting was called to order at 7:30 PM by Mayor Don Durnford.
The pledge of allegiance was recited. The invocation was led by City Adminis-
trator, Ernest A. Thompson.
The City Clerk called the roll. Councilmen present: William A. Bathgate,
Carl E. Buchheim, Edward S. Chermak, Antonio M. (Tony) Olivares and Don Durnford.
Absent: None.
Basic Items Nos. 5, 6 and 7 were to be discussed at this Adjourned Regular
Meeting; however, in the absence of the Director of Finance and legal counsel, Item
No. 7 was discussed.
Before entering into the discussion on the above item, the meeting still being
an open one, Councilman Bathgate inquired as to the area of jurisdiction and coordin-
ation for inspection and construction on the Sewer Assessment District No. 64-1.
wherein it has been reported that the contractor, in traversing the easements pro-
vided, had not taken the proper precaution to not damage existing facilities, e.g.,
irrigation lines, stand pipes, road props, and water line facilities. The City
Administrator commented that he would take it under review and report back.
Item No. 7 - Construction Inspector and Deputy Business License Collector.
After considerable discussion relative to the all encompassing duties to be
performed to provide for the appropriate construction inspector and public contact
for obtaining the business licenses, also to the salary to be paid, Councilman
Chermak moved, duly seconded by Councilman Buchheim, that the City offer the com-
bined positions to Mr. Benny Davis (now doing the construction inspection under the
supervision and employment of the City Engineer, Jack Y. Kubota) for a salary of
$608.00 per month, and with the provision of payment of 10¢ per mile for the use
of his vehicle in the pursuit of those duties performed for the City. The motion
was passed by a unanimous vote.
The subject of street sweeper operator was brought up, but there was no
determination at this time.
The meeting adjourned at 8:48 PM.
