92-0225_CC_Minutes_Special Meeting183 FEBRUARY 25, 1992 SPECIAL MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SAN JUAN CAPISTRANO, CALIFORNIA The Special Meeting of the City Council of the City of San Juan Capistrano, California, was called to order by Mayor Jones at 8:00 a.m., in the City Council Chamber, to consider appointment of a City Attorney. ROLL CALL . PRESENT: Gil Jones, Mayor Kenneth E. Friess, Mayor pro tem Jerry Harris, Councilman Gary L. Hausdorfer, Councilman Jeff Vasquez, Councilman ABSENT: None STAFF PRESENT: George Scarborough, Assistant City Manager; Cheryl Johnson, City Clerk. COUNCILMANIC ITEMS 1. Appointment of City Attorney (Richard Denhalter) (740.40) Written Communications: Employment Agreement between the City and Richard K. Denhalter to provide services to the City as the City Attorney. The Assistant City Manager recommended approval of the agreement and advised that Mr. Denhalter would begin services to the City on March 23, 1992. Approval of Employment Agreement: It was moved by Councilman Friess, seconded by Councilman Hausdorfer and unanimously carried to approve the Employment Agreement with Richard K. Denhalter. Councilman Vasquez noted he did not support the automobile allowance or incentive pay provided for in the agreement. Councilman Harris stated the automobile allowance was comparable to that currently received by Mr. Denhalter and he had no problems with the agreement. ** amended by Council 3/3/92 to add following: see over ADJOURNMENT There being no further business before the Council, the meeting was adjourned at 8:07 a.m., to the next regular meeting date of Tuesday, March 3, 1992, at 7:00 p.m., in the City Council Chamber. Respectfully submitted, CHERYL JOHNS , CITY CLERK ATTEST: I --JONES, MAYOR -1- 02/25/92 184 .1% Councilman Harrus further noted that this City provides automobile allowances to other of its employees and the automobile allowance ultimately saves the City money; that the total salary packaee for Mr. Denhalter was approximately X12.000 less than the salary package of the nrior City Attorney, resulting in a net savings; and, that the salary packave was less than currently received by Mr. Denhalter, who had been offered an increase in salary by his current emnlover as an enticement to remain on the Job. Councilman Harrus stated there is a necessity to offer a competitive contract to attract quality personnel to the City.
