SUBJECT: Cultural Heritage Commission Actions of February 13, 2008
This memorandum summarizes the actions taken by the Cultural Heritage Commission at
their Special meeting on Wednesday, February 13, 2008. No action is required unless the
City Council wishes to hold special review of an item.
CALL TO ORDER
Vice -Chair Nunez called the meeting to order at 3:00 p.m.

NEW BUSINESS
1. Historic Preservation Week 2008. The Historic Preservation Week Committee,
which consists of three Cultural Heritage.. Commission members, staff and members
of the public, discussed and planned events, scheduling, and logistics for the City's
upcoming Historic Preservation Week celebration in May 2008. Committee
members Ilse Byrnes, Jerry Nieblas, Teri Garza, Mary Eidsvold and Kelly Tokarski
were absent. Historic Preservation Week will occur the week of May 11 —17, 2008.

The theme will be Passport to History and will celebrate landmark anniversaries of
the Los Rios District being on the National Register of Historic Places; the opening
of the Michael Graves -designed Library; and the Swallow's Day Parade.
A free weekday evening event with catered refreshments is planned, to be held at
either the Library or the Mission, andwvll b'e a panel presentation about the history
of the Swallow's Day Parade. The date"for this evening event is to be determined.
The building tour will occur on Saturday, May 17, from 11 am to 3 pm with
registration beginning at 10 am. The tour is planned to include buildings in the Los
Rios District as well as the Library. There will potentially be a free shuttle running
back and forth between central parking near Los Rios and at the Library. Tickets for
the tour will cost $10. Living history docents, story -telling and activities that
showcase the history of individual buildings in Los Rios will be featured. It is hoped
that displays on Michael Graves and the history of the Swallow's Day Parade will be
featured at the Library the day of the tour.
No members of the public were in attendance.

Vice -Chair Nunez adjourned the meeting at 4:40 p.m. to the regular meeting of the Cultural
Heritage Commission to be held on Tuesday, February 26, 2008 at 5:00 p.m. in the
Council Chambers.
