Landscape Improvements, a request for input regarding plans for a rehabilitation
project to landscape areas o f the historic structure located at 32506 Paseo
Adelanto (APN; 668-101-03). Project Manager Teri Delcamp presented a brief
overview of the project and its compatibility with the Secretary of the Interior's
Standards, for the Treatment of Historic Properties, She noted staffs comments
regarding the appearance of the benches and the possibility of removing two
existing trees in the proposed seating area, Staff requested informal input from
the CHC before staff approves the project,
CHC Action Memorandum
of August 23, 2011
Applicant Taylor Samuelson, Troop 12, ECR District, gave a detailed
presentation on the proposed new drought tolerant butterfly and hummingbird
garden plant palettes for the north and east sides of the Dance Hall; the bench
seating proposed at the northwest corner of the building; the pavers and
decomposed granite material proposed in the seating area; and the removal of
the two sycamore trees in that area,
Commissioners Banda and DeHaan asked for clarification on the trees, Staff
responded that several volunteer trees had been removed when the City
replanted the rest of the City Hall parking lot, but had stopped short of the Dance
Hall which was the boundary of the landscape project, These two trees appear to
be volunteers, are too close to each other and the Dance Hall roof, and the
project would benefit from their removal,
Commissioner DeHaan said it is a wonderful project but agreed with staff
regarding the benches. She was relieved by Mr. Samuelson's response that the
benches will be a cedar color and will look more like wood than shown in the
photo with the submittal package,
Chair Porter said, the two existing trees are not attractive sycamore specimens
and she supported their removal. The existing landscape doesn't enhance the
area or the building at all, and she hopes the benches will be used by the public,
