Commissioner Nunn recused himself because of a conflict of interest resulting from serving
as the project architect on the San Juan Capistrano Library project and left the City Council
chamber.
F. INFORMATION ITEM:
1. Modifications to the San Juan Capistrano Library; relocation of the Friends of the
Library Bookstore to the Bland Garden located at 31495 El Camino Real, generally
located at the northwest corner of El Camino Real and Acjachema Street (A PN 124-
190-21) (Applicant: City of San Juan Capistrano) (Project Manager: David
Contreras, Senior Planner): Staff informed the Planning Commission that the
Design Review Committee has previously reviewed and approved the site and
architectural plans for the proposed project. The Planning Commission commented
favorably on the proposed project and received and filed the staff report. No final
action was required.
Commissioner Nunn returned to the City Council chamber.
G. NEW BUSINESS:
1. Consideration of a Sign Program for Architectural Control (AC) 12-025, Mission San
Juan Capistrano Gate House; a sign program consisting of two, hand-painted wall
signs on the south elevation of the new gate house-gift shop building (APN 124-
180-06) (Applicant: Matt McKinley) (Project Manager: Nick Taylor, Associate
Planner).
Adoption of Resolution
PC RESOLUTION NO. 13-01-30-01, A RESOLUTION OF THE PLANNING
COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF SAN JUAN CAPISTRANO, CALIFORNIA
APPROVING A SIGN PROGRAM FOR THE MISSION SAN JUAN CAPISTRANO
GATE HOUSE LOCATED AT 26801 ORTEGA HIGHWAY (ASSESSORS PARCEL
NUMBER: 124-180-06) (MISSION SAN JUAN CAPISTRANO). Commissioner
Nunn made a motion, seconded by Commissioner Parkhurst, to adopt a resolution
approving the proposed project subject to slightly reducing the font size of the
"Worth a Visit" text and slightly increasing the font size of the "Founded November
1, 1776" text so that both are the same size font. The motion passed by a 6-0 vote.

H. STAFF & COMMISSION COMMENTS:
Staff briefed the Planning Commission on recent City Council actions and direction and
upcoming projects tentatively scheduled for Design Review Committee and Planning
Commission review.

There being no further business, the Chairman adjourned at 7:22 p.m. to the next regularly
scheduled meeting for Tuesday, February 12, 2013, at 6:30 p.m. in the Council Chambers.
