SUBJECT: Extend Contracts for One Year with Municipal Underground Services, Inc.
Description: On March 20, 2012 City Council approved two personal service agreements
with Municipal Underground Services Inc., one for storm drain inspection
and maintenance, and one for sanitary sewer inspection and maintenance.
The term of both these contracts was 3 years, with, at the City's discretion
up to three (3) additional one (1) year renewals based on satisfactory
performance of the Consultant. On March 17, 2015 City Council approved
the first Amendment to each contract, thereby granting the first optional one
year renewal to both the Sanitary Sewer and Storm Drain Maintenance
Contracts. At that time, City Council also authorized the City Manager to
approve the two remaining optional extensions based on satisfactory
performance of the Consultant. On March 17, 2016, the City Manager
approved the second amendment, thereby granting the second optional one
year renewal for both the sewer and storm drain maintenance contracts.
As Municipal Underground Services has performed well over the past year
on both contracts, staff recommends that the City Manager approve the
third Amendments to the Personal Services Agreements with Municipal
Underground Services (one for Sanitary Sewer Maintenance and one for
Storm Drain Maintenance) to extend each for one ( 1) year, thereby
terminating on March 18, 2018. This is the third and final one year renewal
on each of the two contracts.
Location: Various locations throughout the City
Project Cost: Not to exceed City's adopted fiscal year operating budgets for sewer and
storm drain maintenance services.
Funding Source: 70-94860-64116-00000-000 (Sewer)
01-94960-64116-00000-000 (Storm Drain)
60-94560-64111-00000-000 (Water)*
Proposals: The original contract was competitively bid and the results presented
to City Council on March 12, 2012, at which time Personal Service
Agreements for Storm Drain Maintenance and Sanitary Sewer
Maintenance were awarded to Municipal Underground Services, Inc.
*Vactor mamtenance serv1ces for emergency waterline repa1rs prevent debns and water from
entering the storm drain system. These services are rendered under the storm drain contract,
and are tracked and paid for under this number.
Staff Analysis & Recommendation: Municipal Underground Services has performed well over the
past year on both the sanitary sewer and storm drain maintenance contracts. Staff therefore
recommends that the City Manager approve the third Amendments to the Personal Services
Agreements with Municipal Underground Services (one for Sanitary Sewer Maintenance and one for
Storm Drain Maintenance) extending each for one ( 1) year.
