It is a policy of the City Council that persons appointed to serve on City
Commissions and Boards shall be the best qualified and shall be selected on the basis of
their knowledge of and involvement in municipal and civic activities of the City, and of the
subject matter normally considered by such Commission or Board. As a secondary
consideration when vacancies occur, the City Council shall take into consideration the
geographical area of the City where the applicant resides, in order to insure that a
balanced representation of as many geographic areas of the City as possible are
represented on each advisory Commission and Board.
In addition, the City Council recognizes the need for specific expertise for certain
commissions to carry out their assigned duties and responsibilities. Therefore, it is a policy
of the City Council to consider the following specific criteria when making appointments.
1. The Planning Commission is to consist of five (5) members of which two (2)
should have expertise in either planning, architecture, landscape architecture
or related field of experience.
2. The Open Space, Trails and Equestrian Commission is to consist of five (5)
members of which two (2) should have expertise in the keeping, boarding or
training of equines.
In the event that there are no qualified applicants with the above specific expertise,
the Council may appoint individuals using the general criteria noted above.
