Please allow me to add one more voice on behalf of the many thousands of lives touched each year by The Shea Center. As a resident of San Juan Capistrano, The Shea Center is blessed to enjoy a great partner in the city staff and elected officials as well as prominent members of our community. Our city and its residents has gone about thoughtfully creating a legacy of open space land and preservation of the equestrian lifestyle that is our heritage here and the Rancho Mission Viejo Riding Park is an expression of the community's will to keep and maintain a multi-purpose space for all. Our riders, volunteers and families enjoy the many equestrian activities that happen throughout the year at the park and we are supportive of the steps needed to continue having this opportunity for the entire community — able and disabled --to enjoy this equestrian and community resource. As a private citizen, for the past decade plus I have attended many equestrian events throughout on the site. I see the revenue generated for our San Juan Capistrano businesses from the equestrian activities and have myself paid for lunches, meals, tack, equipment, even hotel stays in town when I have been participating at one of the shows. All of these commerce transactions generate sales and use tax much needed for our city. While there may be a dissenting voice about the use of the property, it's worth remembering that the entire community supported the purchase of land to use and preserve for the equestrian and other activities for this open space. We are grateful to the council for your thoughtful consideration of keeping this resource available to the equestrian community as well as the other uses needed by a growing and diverse community that is San Juan Capistrano.
