Mr. Reeve,

I am writing with a request for the city to consider adjusting the watering schedule for the Marco and
Sportspark fields. I fully understand and agree with our city's water conservation policy, but believe it
could be amended for a short 30 day period. Additionally, these fields are in much worse condition
due to lack of water than any other city green belt or park. In the months of June and July we have
some sizable events that occur at these facilities, starting with the A YSO regional Soccer Tournament,
Club Soccer Tournament, Fourth of July celebration, and then the car show. All of these events bring
large numbers of people into our city. These people spend money that supports our local businesses.
The condition of the fields today are an embarrassment to the city. In past times people flocked to our
tournaments because of location, restaurants, and our beautiful fields. Of course for sporting events, the
fields are a major factor. Today they are brown, with major dirt patches and dead brown thorny weeds.
I believe this could be corrected with three full weeks of reasonable watering. Please consider this
request with urgency as we do not have much time to turn this around.
PS: Thank you for all the work you do for our city.

Good morning.
I am a parent, soccer coach & community member of San Juan Capistrano. I am writing you regarding the
very poor condition of our soccer fields at SJC Sports Park . We participate in tournaments all over South
Orange County, and sadly, our fields are by far the worst we've seen. We love our town and do everything
we can to support our local community, however, our fields are an embarrassment when we have to host
other local cities , and often dangerous because of the condition of the fields. I am speaking on behalf of my
team , my fam i ly and many friends in San Juan Capistrano , and hope you will seriously give this some much
needed attention. Furthermore , in an additional effort to support our SJC community, I have been
volunteering my time to plan and run the Swallows Classic Soccer Tournament on June 25 & 26 at the SJC
Sports Park soccer fields . As a committee, we are all very concerned about the condition of our soccer
fields . Teams are coming from all over to participate in this tournament, and they will be here for 2-3 days
spending money on local hotels, restaurants and tourist attractions in San Juan Capistrano, but will likely be
very disappointed when they show up on Saturday morning and see the condition of our fields. They're
spending a lot of money to participate in the tournament and spend a weekend in our town ... we should be
able to provide them with decent fields to play soccer on , or they just won't come back, which would be
shame for AYSO, and also all our local businesses who benefit from the business that weekend . We really
need your help! Time is of the essence as our tournament is just a month away. PLEASE, PLEASE,
PLEASE look into this and help us get our fields in better shape . We live in a beautiful area , and our
children deserve to play on nice fields ... it's the least we can do , particularly when all of our neighboring
towns have nice soccer fields for their children to play on.
Thank you in advance for your help with this situation.
Sincerely,
Tif~ni Rr~kkF>-Strane

I am writing about the sports field conditions here in San Juan Capistrano.
I have volunteered my time with A YSO Region 87, which is the San Juan/ Dana Point region for
A YSO soccer. For the past 12 years, I have helped organize the referees and been a board member
helping to organize this soccer program for the youth of our community.
I am writing to ask for the City's assistance in doing anything possible to improve the condition of the
soccer fields at Sports Park, Cooks La Novia and Marco Forester. I understand that we have been
experiencing drought conditions, but I have spent time on fields in our neighboring cities and our fields
are in poor shape in comparison. The fields have very little grass and what is there is a good portion of
weeds, all on very hard packed soil. I have received several e-mails that the holes and other conditions
of our fields are approaching being not safe.
I am also aware that our fields get a lot of use, but so do the fields in our neighboring
communities. Even Hausdorfer field (adjacent Sports Park) is green and grass.
I am not sure that there has been an ongoing turf maintenance program. They get mowed and some
water (and a minor aeration a couple of years ago), but that is about the extent. What about soil
amendments and top dressing? Some overseeding and maybe weed control? And certainly more
water. Saturday 's Register, had an article about the Parks in Irvine , and the article noted a national
average spending on parks of $82/ resident. I wonder what the amount is that San Juan Capistrano
spends as a dollar amount per resident.
I am surely not versed in turf maintenance, but there are others who are.

Our A YSO Region is hosting the Swallows Classic Soccer Tournament on June 25 & 26 at SJC Sports
Park that helps to underwrite the Fall and Spring soccer fees for a large number of our local youth
players that have economic issues. Teams come from all over to participate in this tournament, and they
will be here for 2-3 days spending money on local hotels, restaurants and tourist attractions. They will
be spending a lot of money to participate in the tournament and to spend a weekend in our beachside
community ... we should be able to provide them with decent fields to play soccer on.
We really need your help! Time is of the essence as our tournament is just a month away. Please look
into this and help us get our fields in better shape, not only for our upcoming tournament, but as a
general rule they should be better for our children. We live in a beautiful area, and our children deserve
to play on nice fields ... it's the least we can do, particularly when all of our neighboring towns have
nice soccer fields for their children to play on.

Please please please , spend some of our city money for the kids . This city for far too long has focused on the senior
citizens and not on all the young families that live and support all the local businesses here in San Juan . Our kids for too
long have been playing on horribly kept fields for soccer and baseball. The soccer fields are filled with holes and massive
dirt patches, we've actually have had a few twisted ankles because of the awful conditions of these fields.
These fields play such an important part of our kids childhood sports. Please for the sake of the kids, repair and bring all
our fields up to the conditions of all the other cities around us .
Thank you, Pilar Michalis, resident for 17 years.

I am a parent and the wife of a soccer coach that uses the San Juan Capistrano soccer fields (SJC sports
park). I am writing you regarding the horrible condition that these fields are in. They are both unsafe
for the players, and an embarrassment to host tournaments/play games at considering the many
beautiful fields we play at, outside of our home town fields.
I would love for my three kids to be able to run around and play on the fields without me feeling like
they are going to hurt themselves by falling into one of the many holes that take up the field. PLEASE
help us and· our fields!!! We have a beautiful town and we need fields to represent the greatness of
San Juan.
Thank you for your consideration into this matter.
