A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
SAN JUAN CAPISTRANO, CALIFORNIA, ESTABLISHING A CULTURAL
AMBASSADOR TO REPRESENTTHE CITY OF SAN JUAN CAPISTRANO
ACTIVITIES AND APPOINTING JACQUE TAHUKA-NUNEZ AS THE FIRST
AMBASSADOR
WHEREAS, the City of San Juan Capistrano, a diverse community made up of
many different cultures and backgrounds, has always been interested in learning about
othercultures, and establishing international friendships and relationships with othercities
throughout the world; and,
WHEREAS, a portion of the San Juan Capistrano population consists of an
indigenous people; and,
WHEREAS, Jacque Tahuka-Nunez, member of the Juaneno Band of Mission
Indians, has been selected to represent the City of San Juan Capistrano in a Cultural
Ambassador capacity for the 2014 North American Indigenous Games, held in Regina,
Canada; and,
WHEREAS, the creation of a volunteer "Cultural Ambassador" would add to the
volunteer structure, coordination, and oversight of the program and reinforcethe City's and
community's ability to retain and perpetuate its interest in its history and other cultures;
and,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE RESOLVED, thatthe CityCouncil of San Juan Capistrano
hereby establishes a one-year voluntary position of Cultural Ambassador for the City of
San Juan Capistrano. Specific goals for the position for the initial one-year appointment
would include the Cultural Ambassador attending and participating in the Cultural Village
Event at the First Nations University of Canada and provide a report to the City Council
upon return from the event.
