Support for renewal of the CREER lease
6/2/2015
I'm writing to request that you renew CREER's lease of the City-owned building at the
corner of La Zanja and El Camino Real.
CREER is doing a good job helping students who are struggling academically. Their
doors are open to all students, and they operate on a shoestring budget.
Most of the students CREER seNes are from the Two-Way Immersion Program at San
Juan Elementary School. They go on to attend Marco Forster Middle School and San .
Juan Hills High School. In this year's class of ninth graders at San Juan Hills High
School, 100% of the English Learners from San Juan Elementary had already been
reclassified as English Proficient.
I don't know whether that fact is meaningful to you, but I find it pretty extraordinary.
In today's Orange County Register there's an article about Orange County high school
graduation rates. Last year's graduation rate at SJHHS was 99.6%, the highest of any
non-magnet public school in the entire county and better than any other CUSD high
school!
I'm certainly not going to claim that CREER should get all the credit for these
successes, but I'm sure they are playing a part. Please show your support for them by
renewing their lease.
Thank you for your consideration.
Gila Jones
