ADJUSTMENT OF COUNCILMANIC SALARIES
AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF SAN JUAN CAPISTRANO,
CALIFORNIA, PROVIDING FOR AN ADJUSTMENT OF SALARIES
TO MEMBERS OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
SAN JUAN CAPISTRANO AND REPEALING ORDINANCE NO. 208
WHEREAS, there was added by the Statutes of 1972,
Chapter 591, Section 36516.2 of the Government Code of the State
of California, legislation providing for the enactment of an
ordinance providing for increase in City Councilmen's salary
beyond the amounts as provided in Section 36516 of said Government
Code; and,
WHEREAS, among the purposes of said legislation was to
allow and provide an increase in Council compensations in an
amount not to exceed an amount equal to five percent (58) for
each calendar year from the operative date of the last adjustment
of the salary in effect when the ordinance is enacted.
NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SAN JUAN CAPISTRANO,
CALIFORNIA, DOES HEREBY ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS:

This Ordinance is enacted pursuant to Section 36516.2
of the Government Code, as added by Chapter 591 of the Statutes of
1972, authorizing the Council to provide by ordinance that the
compensation of City Councilmen shall be increased by an amount
equal to five percent (5%) for each calendar year from the operative
date of the last adjustment of the salary in effect, and the
above is hereby ordered.

The operative date of the last adjustment in the salary of
the City Councilmen was the 25th day of September, 1972.
SECTION 3.
Each member of the City Council shall receive, as
salary, the sum of Two Hundred, Ten Dollars ($210.00) per month,
said amount having been determined and implemented under the
provisions of Government Code Section 36516.2.
SECTION 4.
Pursuant to Section 36516.5 of said Government Code,
this change in compensation does not apply to a Councilman during
his term of office; however the adjustment of the compensation
will be operative for all members whenever one or more members of
such Council becomes eligible for a salary increase by reason of
beginning a new term of office.
SECTION 5
This Ordinance does not authorize oz provide for
automatic future increases in salary.
SECTION 6. Effective Date.
This Ordinance shall be effective thirty (30) days from
and after the date of its passage.

SECTION 7. Repeal.
That upon the effective date of this Ordinance, Ordinance
No. 208, and all other ordinances, resolutions and motions of the
City Council of the City of San Juan Capistrano inconsistent
herewith shall be repealed and superseded to the extent of such
inconsistency and no further.
SECTION 8. City Clerk's Certification
The City Clerk shall certify to the adoption of this
Ordinance and cause same to be posted in the duly designated
posting places within the City of San Juan Capistrano within
fifteen (15) days after its passage.
PASSED, APPROVED AND ADOPTED this 5th day of
March 1 1980 , by the following vote, to wit:
AYES: Councilman Hausdorfer, Schwartze, Thorpe
Buchheim and Mayor Friess
