Resolution Number 08-10-21-01RESOLUTION NO. 08-10-21-01. A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SAN JUAN CAPISTRANO, CALIFORNIA IN OPPOSITION TO THE PROPOSED WIDENING TO SIX LANES OF TRAFFIC ON ORTEGA HIGHWAY IN THE SOUTH ORANGE COUNTY MAJOR INVESTMENT STUDY BY ORANGE COUNTY TRANSPORTATION AUTHORITY WHEREAS, The City of San Juan Capistrano has participated in technical and policy advisory committees for the South Orange County Major Investment Study undertaken by Orange County Transportation Authority; and WHEREAS, City of San Juan Capistrano has received community input against widening of Ortega Highway to six lanes of traffic; and WHEREAS, six lanes on Ortega will likely result in removal or relocation of many homes, destruction of a scenic highway, and compromise of historic structures, and WHEREAS, alternative new east -west roadway connections should be considered such that existing communities are not devastated by increases in vehicular traffic; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City of San Juan Capistrano, hereby opposes inclusion of a six -lane Ortega Highway in the South Orange County Major Investment Study. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City of San Juan Capistrano requests Orange County Transportation Authority to eliminate the six -lane Ortega Highway project from future consideration in the South Orange County Major Investment Study.
