the Marine Corps Recruiting Station at 64 Shattuck Avenue in Berkeley, California and
brand the Marines as "uninvited and unwelcome intruders."
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of San Juan Capistrano would welcome
a Marine Corps recruiting office in its community and wholeheartedly supports the
United States Marine Corps.
WHEREAS, in fact, the City in 2006 adopted the 1st Battalion, 11 t Marines
Regiment (1/11) based at Camp Pendleton, and has supported the 1/11 and its families
through a number of community outreach, civic programs and events.
' WHEREAS, the City Council supports all of our Armed Forces whether it be the
Army, Marines, Air Force, Navy or Coast Guard.
WHEREAS, our Armed Forces continue to serve our nation with distinction and

our Armed Forces, and the Marines in particular, have made the ultimate sacrifice in the
name of Freedom.
WHEREAS, the City of San Juan Capistrano supports the Marine Corps' right to
tell their story and would not be critical of any groups' right to speak — even if those
groups' opinions differed from our own.
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of San
Juan Capistrano does hereby condemn the Jan. 29, 2008 actions of the Berkeley City
Council, which moved to ban a Marine Corps Recruiting Station located in the City of
