RESOLUTION NO. 66_8-8-1
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
SAN JUAN CAPISTRANO ENDORSING CONGRESSMAN HANNA'S
EFFORTS, THROUGH LEGISLATION, TO APPROPRIATE
ADDITIONAL FINANCES FOR UPGRADING POSTAL SERVICE
ON A STANDARDIZED BASIS
WHEREAS, by executive order of the Post Office Department it has been decreed
that new subdivisions would receive mail delivery only at curbside mailboxes; and
WHEREAS, prior to the effective date of such order the City of San Juan Capis-
trano passed it's Ordinance No. 121 prohibiting the placement of obstructions
(including mailboxes) within the public rights of way; and
WHEREAS, said Ordinance was passed in part to preserve the beauty and orderly
development of the City; and
WHEREAS, it has come to our attention that Congressman Hanna has introduced
a bill in the House of Representatives to seek an additional appropriation to enable
the Post Office Department to continue its door to door delivery; and
WHEREAS, it is the considered opinion of the City Council that Congressman
Hanna's bill is the proper solution to maintain and carry out the beautification pro-
gram of Lady Bird Johnson and to preserve the aesthetic beauty of San Juan Capistrano.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of San Juan
Capistrano that it endorse and it does hereby endorse the bill introduced by Congress-
man Hanna increasing the appropriation of the Post Office Department.
AND BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of the resolution be forwarded to
Honorable George H. Mahan, Chairman of the House Appropriations Committee, Honorable
Richard Hanna, House of Representatives, Honorable Thomas H. Kuchel, United States
Senate, and George Murphy, United States Senate.
