Resolution Number 76-4-7-1RESOLUTION NO. 76-4-7-1 RECREATION PROGRAM - JOB DESCRIPTIONS A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SAN JUAN CAPISTRANO, CALIFORNIA, AMENDING RESOLUTION NO. 72-1-19-11 THE CITY`S CLASSI- FICATION AND SALARY PLAN, PROVIDING FOR THE POSITIONS OF SENIOR RECREATION LEADER, RECREATION LEADER II, AND RECREATION LEADER I 4'7'7 WHEREAS, Section 2 of Rule V of Resolution No. 72-3-27-3, the Personnel Rules of the City of San Juan Capistrano, provides that the Classification and Salary Plan may be amended from time to time by resolution of the City Council; and WHEREAS, the orderly administration of the affairs of the City requires the addition of certain job classifications and salary ranges to the existing Classification and Salary Plan of the City of San Juan Capistrano. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of San Juan Capistrano that the job descriptions attached hereto as Exhibits A, B, and C are hereby adopted, and the follow- ing positions are hereby created with salaries as indicated: POSITION Senior Recreation Leader Recreation Leader II Recreation Leader I SALARY $4.35 to $5.00 per hour $3.50 to $4.20 per hour $3.00 to $3.45 per hour BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the above additions and amendments be effective April 1, 1976. (SEAL) MARY ANN Ij OVE , CITY CLERK -1- SENIOR RECREATION LEADER 479 DEFINITION Under supervision, assists the Recreation Coordinator with organizing, promoting and conducting recreational programs. Assists in the recruitment and training of part-time personnel and volunteers to conduct these activities. EXAMPLES OF DUTIES Assists in planning, coordinating, and directing specialized services of the recreation program such as sports, arts and crafts, performing arts, and senior citizens; plans and arranges a variety of programs, meetings, and other events; supervises and consults with recreation leaders, instructors and volunteers; interprets the policies of the recreation program, and participates in a public relations and public information program; may prepare a variety of brochures, informational pamphlets, and written and oral reports. QUALIFICATIONS Training and Experience Graduation from college or its equivalent, supple- mented by additional college level courses in a field related to recreation; and Three years of experience with varied, organized recreation programs. Knowledge and Abilities Knowledge of the principles and techniques of planning and directing public recreation activities; knowledge of objectives of specialized recreation activities; and of the reasonable and practical methods of achieving these objectives effectively; ability to prepare and present written and oral reports; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisor, subordinates, and the general public. Possession of a valid California Driver's License. "EXHIBIT A" -2- RECREATION LEADER II DEFINITION Under supervision, promotes, organizes and leads a variety of recreation activities at a community park, school playground, conducts activities with assigned groups, and performs such other related work as may be required. A Recreation Leader II is normally assigned to a recreation area or facility such as a community park or playground and oversees the activities there. EXAMPLES OF DUTIES Organizes, promotes, leads, teaches and conducts recreation activities such as arts and crafts, games, team sports, dancing, story telling, puppetry, social recreation, nature activities, camping, community singing and informal music activities. Consults with individuals and groups to determine their recrea- tional interests, needs and desires. Recruits and trains volunteers to assist in recreation programs. Organizes, leads and acts as an advisor to clubs and other continuing groups. May organize, promote and direct tournaments, shows, socials, dances, exhibits, festivals, and special events. Insures that safety precautions are observed in free play and gives first aid. Cares for and maintains equipment and recommends the acquisition or disposal of equipment and materials for the recreation program. May prepare manuals, announcements, bulletins and related materials needed in the program. Keeps records of activities and prepared reports. QUALIFICATIONS Training and Experience Graduation from high school and two years of college, and 1,000 hours experience in leadership of children or adult groups in recreational activities, or an equivalent combination of training and related experience. Knowledge and Abilities A Recreation Leader II must possess a knowledge of the methods and techniques used in playground and recreation work, a knowledge of first aid methods and necessary safety precautions against physical and other hazards, skill in the sports and activities of the recreation program. Also, he must have the ability to organize, direct and lead a group of children or adults and plan recreational activity including the ability to serve as referee at athletic contests in the play program, the ability to meet and deal tactfully with the public, and the ability to solve disciplinary problems effectively. Possession of a valid California Driver's License. "EXHIBIT B" -3- RECREATION LEADER I 83 DEFINITION Under supervision, organizes and leads a variety of recreation activities at school playgrounds or neighborhood parks, conducts activities with assigned groups, and performs such other related work as may be required. EXAMPLES OF DUTIES Promotes, teaches and conducts recreation activities such as arts and crafts, games, team sports, dancing, story telling, puppetry, social recreation, nature activities, camping, and informal music activities. Assists in organizing, directing tournaments, shows, socials, dances, exhibits, festivals and special events. Insures that safety precautions are observed in free play and gives first aid. Aids in the preparation of manuals, announcements, bulletins and related materials needed in the program. QUALIFICATIONS Training and Experience Graduation from high school and two years of college, and 500 hours experience in leadership of children or adult groups in recreational activities, or an equivalent combination of training and related experience. Knowledge and Abilities A Recreation Leader I must possess a knowledge of the methods and techniques used in playground and recrea- tion work, a knowledge of first aid methods and necessary safety precautions against physical and other hazards. He must have skill in the sports and activities of the recreation program, and he must have the ability to organize, direct and lead a group of children or adults in recreational activity. Possession of a valid California Driver's License.
