Resolution Number 82-3-3-1RESOLUTION NO. 82-3-3-1 SOUTH ORANGE COUNTY GENERAL AVIATION AIRPORT SITE SELECTION A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SAN JUAN CAPISTRANO, CALIFORNIA, RESPECTFULLY REQUESTING THE ORANGE COUNTY BOARD OF SUPERVISORS TO GIVE NO FURTHER STUDY OR CONSIDERATION TO THE SOUTH ORANGE COUNTY SITES PROPOSED IN THE GENERAL AVIATION SITE SELECTION STUDY REPORTS 49 WHEREAS, the City Council closed the Capistrano Airport effective June 1, 1978, in order to protect the health, safety and general welfare of the citizens of San Juan Capistrano; and, WHEREAS, the City has participated with the County of Orange in its difficult task to identify sites suitable for general aviation airport facilities within the County; and, WHEREAS, the City Council has had the opportunity to review and give due consideration to the General Aviation Airport Site Selection Study Report; and, WHEREAS, the City Council has conducted a public hearing to provide the residents of San Juan Capistrano and other interested parties the opportunity to express their views and to give public testimony concerning the Site Selection Report; and, WHEREAS, the City of San Juan Capistrano has had an historical relationship with the Rancho Mission Viejo and has received and considered the testimony of the Rancho Mission Viejo that the general aviation sites proposed for location on the Ranch would be detrimental to the long-term interests of the Rancho Mission Viejo and the greater San Juan Capistrano community; and, WHEREAS, the City Council is cognizant of its responsibility to protect and preserve the general health, safety and welfare of the City, its environs, and its residents. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that having given due consideration to the General Aviation Site Selection Study Reports of December 19, 1981, and January 12, 1982, and having considered the testimony of residents of the City of San Juan Capistrano and other interested parties, including the Rancho Mission Viejo, the City Council hereby finds and determines that the development of the sites identified in the aforementioned General Aviation Site Selection Study Reports in and around the vicinity of San Juan Capistrano including those sites located on the Rancho Mission Viejo would be detrimental to the health, safety and general welfare of the citizens and the City of San Juan Capistrano. -1- BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the City Council of the City of San Juan Capistrano hereby respectfully requests the Orange County Board of Supervisors to give no further study or consideration to the South Orange County sites proposed in the General Aviation Site Selection Study Reports.
