Resolution Number 93-6-15-4RESOLUTION NO. 93-6-15-4 ENDORSING CALIFORNIA PARKS AND WILDLIFE WMATIVE 1994 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SAN JUAN CAPISTRANO, CALIFORNIA, ENDORSING THE CALIFORNIA PARKS AND WILDLIFE INITIATIVE 1994 WHEREAS, Californians for Parks and Wildlife (CALPAW '94) has prepared a citizen bond measure titled California Parks and Wildlife Initiative which would provide approximately $1.9 billion to acquire, protect and enhance park land, wildlife habitat, agricultural lands, coastal areas, river habitat, and preservation of important ethnic, cultural and historic sites throughout California; and, WHEREAS, the Friends of Historic San Juan, in coordination with Californians for Parks and Wildlife have incorporated language into the initiate to identify funding in the amount of $3,500,000 to assist in the preservation of significant historic and cultural artifacts located in the Historic Town Center of the City; and, WHEREAS, the preservation of such artifacts is encouraged by the Historic/Archaeological Element of the city's General Plan and would be consistent with the direction of the Historic Town Center Workshop program currently being conducted by the City; and, WHEREAS, due to the lack of local fund sources, the preservation of the Blas Aguilar Adobe and the adjacent artifacts associated with the cobble foundations cannot be protected from further deterioration; and, WHEREAS, should the California Parks and Wildlife Initiative 1994/CALPAW '94 be approved ' by the electors of the State, sufficient funds will be provided to insure the proper preservation of these important artifacts to the city and the State of California. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the City Council of the City of San Juan Capistrano does hereby express its support of the California Parks and Wildlife Initiative 1994 and encourages all residents of the City to become familiar with and support this initiate in that it endeavors to acquire special open space areas and preserve unique cultural and historic features of the State and the City consistent with those principals contained in the City's General Plan.
