Resolution Number 02-01-10-02RESOLUTION NO. 02-01-10-02 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SAN JUAN CAPISTRANO, CALIFORNIA, IN SUPPORT OF MEASURE W. WHEREAS, a commercial airport at the closed EI Toro Marine Air Station would negatively impact the quality of life of thousands of citizens in Orange County, and WHEREAS, the County of Orange has an airport of sufficient size to accommodate the travel needs of the people of Orange County, and WHEREAS, the 4,700 acres of land at EI Toro could be used for the public benefit to create a world class park that could include museums; libraries; sports, recreation and entertainment facilities; universities, technical schools and other educational facilities; botanical gardens; golf courses; equestrian center; plus over 1,000 acres of protected natural habitat and, WHEREAS, a great Central Park for Orange County could be built over a period of years at no cost to the taxpayers as funds become available. Until then a "land bank" could be created, with the land being used primarily for revenue -generating purposes. NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, the City of San Juan Capistrano, does hereby endorse Measure W — the Central Park and Nature Preserve Initiative and supports it being placed before the voters of Orange County to make a decision on March 5'h, 2002.
