Resolution Number 01-10-16-04RESOLUTION NO. 01-10-16-04 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SAN JUAN CAPISTRANO, CALIFORNIA, SUPPORTING THE EL TORO REUSE PLANNING AUTHORITY'S OPPOSITION TO THE EXPANSION OF JOHN WAYNE AIRPORT AND TO THE CONSTRUCTION OF A NEW AIRPORT AT EL TORO WHEREAS the almost three million residents and the vigorous business community of Orange County are well served by John Wayne Airport; and, WHEREAS a court -imposed consent decree limiting annual passengers and flights at John Wayne Airport will expire in 2005; and, WHEREAS future population growth in Southern California is expected to be concentrated in Los Angeles, Riverside, and San Bernardino counties, rather than Orange County; and, WHEREAS Ontario Airport has substantial unused capacity and the new commercial airports at the sites of the former March, Norton and George Air Force bases are in the path of future population growth; and, WHEREAS Orange County has adequate airport capacity at the existing John Wayne Airport, now and for the future; and, WHEREAS existing airports at LAX, Burbank, Long Beach, Ontario, John Wayne and Palmdale, coupled with new airports at March, Norton and George Air Force bases, will amply serve the air transportation needs of the Greater Los Angeles metropolitan area for the future; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED thatthe Cityof San Juan Capistrano joins the EI Toro Reuse Planning Authority in its opposition to the construction of a new airport at EI Toro; and, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City of San Juan Capistrano joins the EI Toro Reuse Planning Authority and is unconditionally opposed to termination of the existing nighttime curfews at John Wayne Airport; and, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City of San Juan Capistrano joins the EI Toro Reuse Planning Authority in supporting the continuation of existing limits on flights and passengers at John Wayne Airport; and, - 1 - BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City of San Juan Capistrano supports the EI Toro Reuse Planning Authority and the neighbors of John Wayne Airport in their quest to maintain limits on flight operations at that airport.
