The calculations provide existing framing and loading. The project is in the city of San Juan Capistrano, TX. The existing building was built in 2019 under the 2019 California Building Code. The current building code is the 2019 California Building Code. The roof structure consists of three sloped sections and two flat sections. The additional mechanical units to be added to the roof will be on the flat section. This section of the roof consists of a W-beam in the middle with purlins parallel to the beam. The W-beam and roof truss are capable of carrying the additional loading. Calculations were done to analyze the capacity of the purlins. This innovation distributes the load through two points on each joist nail for greater strength. It also allows the use of fewer nails, faster installation and the use of standard nails for all connections. (Do not bend or remove tabs.) Material: See tables, pp. 104–114 Finish: Galvanized. Some products available in stainless steel or ZMAX® coating; see Corrosion Information, pp. 12–15. Installation: •Use all specified fasteners; see General Notes. •Nails must be driven at an angle through the joist or truss into the header to achieve the table loads. •Not designed for welded or nailer applications. •With 3x carrying members: when 0.162" x 3 1/2" nails are specified, use 0.162" x 2 1/2" nails into the header and 0.162" x 3 1/2" nails into the joist with no load reduction. When 0.148" x 3" nails are specified, use 0.148" x 2 1/2" nails into the header and 0.148" x 3" nails into the joist with no load reduction. •With 2x carrying members: when 0.162" x 3 1/2" nails are specified, use 0.148" x 1 1/2" nails into the header and 0.148" x 3" nails into the joist and reduce the load to 0.64 of the table values. When 0.148" x 3" nails are specified, use 0.148" x 1 1/2" nails into the header and 0.148" x 3" nails into the joist and reduce the load to 0.77 of the table values. See p. 22 for specific Load Adjustment Factors. Allowable Loads: •See table on pp. 104–114 for loads. Options: •LUS/HUS hangers cannot be modified. •See next page for HHUS/HGUS modifications. No. CD-ClipExpress 01/23 clarkdietrich.com OVERVIEW SCREW CONNECTIONS Self-drilling screws— These high-strength fasteners are used if the connection is multiple thicknesses of 33mil steel or thicker. One of the more common self-drilling screws is a #10-16 x 5/8 HWH SD (#10 diameter shaft, 16 threads per inch, 5/8 length, hex washer head self-drilling screw). Proprietary deflection screws— Many of the ClarkDietrich deflection clips include our Proprietary Deflection Screw that has been specifically designed to provide friction-free deflection. These fasteners eliminate drag, binding or resistance that can often occur with common fasteners. Connections can be made using a variety of fastening options. It is critical to specify the proper fastener to ensure the proper performance of the connections in light-gauge (cold-formed) steel construction. The most common and widely used connection methods are screw connections, powder-actuated fastener connections and weld connections. Each type of connection method has various advantages and disadvantages. Therefore, we provide data for the most common types so you can choose your preferred connection method.
