This will confirm your appointment to the full-time exempt position of Planning Director with the
City of San Juan Capistrano, beginning on or before March 15, 2004. This appointment is
considered at -will and may be terminated at any time with or without cause.
In accordance with the agreed upon terns and conditions of employment, the following is a
summary of the compensation and benefits which shall be provided to you:
Title:
Planning Director
Salary:
$9,346 per month
Auto Allowance:
$225 per month
Relocation Assistance:
Reimbursement of up to $5,000 in moving expenses upon
your relocation from your current residence to the San Juan
Capistrano area within one year of start date.
Interim Housing Assistance:
Use of Swanner House in a furnished condition, rent-free
for a period of up to six months. If needed, the City and
employee may mutually agree to an extension of time.
Should the Swanner House not be available beginning on
hire date, the City will assist in additional temporary
housing.
Health Insurance:
Medical - CaIPERS Health Plans (City pays up to the
highest HMO plan for employee and dependents; if you
enroll in a plan that has a higher cost, you will be
responsible for the difference in premium)
Opt Out - If covered under a spouse's medical group plan,
you may opt out of medical coverage and receive
$250/month.
Single employee coverage reimbursement $137.50/month
Dental - Prudential Health Care (City -paid)
Vision - Vision Service Plan (City -paid)
Sick Leave:
8 hours per month

Vacation:
Immediate credit of 120 hours upon hire; 10 days/year for
first 3 years; 16.5 days/year for 4 to 7 years; 18.5 days/year
for 8 to 10 years; and, 20.5 days/year for more than 10
years
Holidays:
11 days per year, plus 10 hours of Floating holiday
Administrative Leave:
64 hours per year. Option to cash out up to 64 hours of
administrative leave each year, in June and December.
Retirement:
Orange County Employees Retirement System (Reciprocal
with PERS). City pays 100% of employee's share.
Employee pays cost of enhanced retirement benefit of
7.74% of base pay through a separate payroll deduction.
Deferred Compensation:
Voluntary salary deferral up to IRS annual limits.
Life Insurance:
Value equivalent to two times employee's annual salary
plus $20,000, with a maximum of $250,000. City paid
benefit.
Short/Long Term
Disability Insurance:
Disability Insurance of up to 213 of salary after a 14 day
elimination period. City paid benefit.
Medicare:
You are responsible for paying 1.45% for Medicare as
mandated by Federal regulations
Be sure to make the necessary arrangements to have your pre-employment physical and
fingerprinting completed as soon as possible. Your appointment is contingent upon the
successful completion of a background investigation, which includes these two steps. If you
