As discussed in our meeting on May 19, 2004, Heritage Architecture & Planning (Heritage) has examined the deflecting beam in the front office of the Harrison House. The beam is not deflecting at a rapid pace nor does it appear to present any imminent hazard. However, in our professional opinion, a structural engineer is required to make a determination on the cause and appropriate remedy of the deflection. Structural engineering services were not included in the original contract. So at this time, we are requesting the additional design fees to obtain the services of a structural engineer and proceed with a resolution to the deflecting beam issue. The additional scope includes time for an additional site visit, with the structural engineer, to review the existing structural conditions, as well as, time for structural calculations and drafting of any additional structural details. The total fee for services necessary to complete the structural analysis and design is $2160.00. This fee includes eight hours of the structural engineer's time and approximately 8 hours of field investigation, coordination, and drafting time for Heritage Architecture & Planning. Please review this proposal and call if you have any questions. If the additional scope and fee meet with your approval, please sign in the space provided and send a copy to Heritage for our records. Thank you.
