1976-0421_WORLD REPAIR, INCORPORATED_Agenda Report AGENDA ITEM April 21, 1976
TO: James S. Mocalis , City Manager
FROM: W. D. Murphy, Director of Public Works
SUBJECT: PLAN FOR RECYCLABLE MATERIALS IN CITY YARD
SITUATION:
World Repair, Inc. (WRI) allowed a lease agreement with the City
to expire on December 31 , 1975. This agreement was for the use of
a section of the City' s corporate yard for recycling purposes . That
section was last used for recycling in August, 1974 . From that time
people have been depositing materials creating piles of glass , alumi-
num and paper.
The past director of WRI has been contacted and is unable to provide
any assistance in a clean up operation. It is now the City ' s respon-
sibility to clean up that section of the corporate yard. There is a
paper baler and inoperative forklift on the site. This equipment
will be removed from the site. City crews and recycling companies
will be needed to load and remove materials.
FINANCIAL CONSIDERATIONS:
The estimated initial costs for loading and removal of materials by
Public Works crews and recycling companies is $400 . The estimated
value of the materials is $600 .
ALTERNATE ACTIONS :
1. Authorize the removal of recyclable materials and
equipment from that section of the corporate yard
closing the site to recycling operations .
2 . Authorize the removal of recyclable materials and
equipment from that section of the corporate yard
keeping the site open for a recycling operation.
3. Request further study.
RECOMMENDATION :
By motion, authorize the removal of recyclable materials and equipment
from that section of the corporate yard closing the site for further
recycling operations .
