October 6, 1998 FOR GANG PREVENTION AND SUPPRESSION 5 SERVICES WITH THE CITIES OF DANA POINT, LAGUNA NIGUEL,AND SAN JUAN CAPISTRANO SUMMARY OF REQUEST(Description for agenda) The Probation Department requests authorization for the Chief Probation-Officer to execute the Agreement for gang prevention and suppression services with the cities of Dana Point, Laguna Niguel, and San Juan Capistrano. ADDITIONAL DATA: Since February 28, 1991 the Cities of Dana Point, Laguna Niguel and San Juan Capistrano have contracted with the County of Orange for the provision of gang prevention and suppression services to the population of those cities. The City of Laguna Hills was a fourth member receiving contractual services between September 15, 1992 and June 30, 1996. Under the terms of the agreement, the County provides a Deputy Probation Officer who teams with Orange County Sheriff Deputies in gang prevention and suppression activities. The current agreement terminated on June 30, 1998. The cities of Dana Point, Laguna Niguel and San Juan Capistrano are interested in renewing the agreement for the period July 1, 1998 through June 30, 1999, under the same basic terms and conditions. Each of the three cities agree to equally share the full costs of the Deputy Probation Officer.
