The award winning Library designed by Michael Graves is recognized by architects from around the world. Historically, the Friends of the Library Bookstore was a new concept when the library was built 30 years ago. It was placed to be accessible to the Library and La Sala. When other libraries were built following the one in San Juan Capistrano, the bookstore was put in the front of the libraries. This was obviously a better position for a bookstore. Now thirty years later, the Michael Graves library needs to move to a more accessible location for the Bookstore. While the bookstore has done well in the past, there is no doubt that it will do better with an entrance closer to street traffic. The City is a partner in this award winning Library. The Friends are not asking for a gift. They are asking for a loan. Thirty years ago, the City Council was smart enough to join the County in determining the kind of Library San Juan Capistrano would have. Please continue the foresight of that City Council and provide the Friends of the Library the way to expand and continue servicing all of San Juan Capistrano. Please grant a loan agreement with Friends of the Library for the new bookstore. Thank you Jan Siegel
