Lolly,
Request your favorable consideration this week of the request for waiver of charges for the American
Legion Post 721 of San Juan Capistrano continuing use of the Old EI Horno Fire Station for monthly
meetings and the garage which we use for storing the American Flag and other items for our monthly
meetings. I understand the cost breakdown is $1,728.00 annually for the Nydegger bldg. & $1,141.00
for the Garage.
About 120+ former service members are active in the San Juan Capistrano Post 721 of the American
Legion. We have former service members who served in WWII, Korea, Cold War, Viet Nam era and
Gulf War veterans --not necessarily combat veterans of foreign wars. These are good folks, many are
long time residents of San Juan Capistrano from our oldest families, many former leaders in business
and local community activities and even former city council members.
The Post 721 finances coffers are low, and we are actively raising funds to support our veterans in
our community and elsewhere, and to respond to the many charitable organizations which depend on
our contributions. Your approval of a continued waiver of charges for our use of these facilities will be
consistent with past Council actions and in the best interest of the city of the San Juan Capistrano.
I would personally attend the Council Meeting to be heard on this matter, but will be on travel through
Sunday. Please accept this as my statement for the record and request for your personal support.
Thanks in advance for your consideration.
Regards and thanks,
Don Sovie
