The benefits they provide for many military families are endless. To name a few that I have personally been involved with recently are: *Heroes Night Out where they celebrate those that serve and provide a nice evening out for enlisted through a nice meal, entertainment and special speakers. Over 40 1/11 marines attended, free of charge. *Summer Nights Concerts where again the marines are provided a nice meal for them and their families and they are able to enjoy the concerts. *San Juan Tree Lighting Bake sale. This event is more and more successful each year. We raised over $1500 that goes directly to support the Marine Corp Ball for 1/11 Battalion. *Car Wash where the volunteers worked with the Marines and was a very profited day. Of course all proceeds go to the marines. * Halloween gift bags. Our volunteers assembled Halloween bags for the marine children, 1/2 of which went directly to the 1/11 Battalion and their children, These are just a few of the programs I can think of that Homefront America does to benefit the 1/11. However, I know there are many more events throughout the year that the 1/11 is included in. Jose, the 1/11 Family Readiness Officer has on multiple occasions expressed his appreciation for Homefront America and everything they do! I have never worked with a more organized, well run philanthropy. Please consider keeping Homefront America on as the liaison between the city and the 1/11 Marine Battalion. I don't think there is any other philanthropy or individual that cares more or will continue providing for the Battalion as Homefront. Thank you for your time. Kristy McFarland January3, 2018 Honorable Mayor and Members of the City Council: Subject: 1/11 Marines When I moved to San Juan in 2011, 1 had the pleasure of attending the 10 year anniversary memorial of 9/11. At that time I approached the City to offer to volunteer to work with the 1/11 Adopted Marine battalion. As a result of no response, I had the pleasure of being directed to Homefront America and have since been involved as a volunteer working on their events. For a short time I was on the city committee and then last year that responsibility was transferred to Homefront America. During this year I have had the opportunity to work the city sponsored 1/11 events. Having a career as a Corporate Meeting and Event planner, I can attest to the fact that all of the events planned by Homefront America are well organized, cost conscious, and as a result have been very successful. There has not been an instance where Marine leadership and men in uniform have not expressed how extremely appreciative and grateful they are for the support given by the City of San Juan Capistrano. This is an exceptional way to support these young men who so valiantly give their all to protect our freedom. In working with Mamie, Art and Adam over the past years, I can attest to the total professionalism of Homefront America in supporting the city's adopted Marines and I am proud to volunteer to that end. I sincerely hope the council will consider approval of the MOU currently pending so that we may continue to support the City of San Juan Capistrano and the 1/11 Marines. Respectfullly, Patricia K. I am proud to be of service to these men and women who protect our great Country. Homefront does so many wonderful things for these brave men and women....you must approve the renewal of the MOU Renewal so they may continue to support and care for our troops. This past December, I volunteered to serve at the Christmas party for military members and their families. The event was extremely well run, organized and first class in my opinion. Every family selected 3 gifts per child. The gifts were new and high quality. I noticed how surprised some people seemed when they learned that they could pick 3 gifts per child. Some families had 4 kids, so this was a substantial amount of gifts! There was also a drawing for a brand new bike and they were excited to participate. > I was very touched by a personal thank you note, given to me by one of the mothers at this Christmas event. It was handwritten and expressed how important this organization was to their families. I was so touched I took a picture of the note. There were children who drew pictures for us because they were too young to write a thank you note. It was very rewarding to see the joy we brought these families as they selected gifts for their kids. > I have also volunteered at the Easter party, which was held at Zoomars that particular year; and the "date night out" for the couples. I noticed their pride in uniform, with their dates all dressed up for an evening out. All of these events were done with great care and were very well staffed and organized. These families deserve the very best in my opinion and I am grateful for organizations like Homefront America, which recognize our military members and their families. > I would appreciateit if you could copy each of the Council Members on my letter of grattitude for Homefront America and the work they do for our military. > Thank you > Janet Mitchell 1 Matisse Reischl Subject: FW: Homefront America On Jan 7, 2018, at 5:13 PM, Tim.Martin wrote: Honorable Mayor and Members of the City Council My name is Kim Martin and I am active member of NCL Monarch. With NCL I am also fortunate enough to have served for 2 years as the liaison to Homefront America. During this time I have been able to work closely with this wonderful philanthropic organization. My daughter and I have volunteered at many events put on by Homefront America. We have been very fortunate to have been involved with 3 years of Heroes Night Out. This evening has been very well run, organized, and an amazing way to show our gratitude towards the various branches of the military. It has been so special to hear the stories of the men and women that have been honored at this event. A highlight of the evening is the raffle for some amazing trips, as well as, an outstanding silent auction. We have also helped at two 1/11 events on base through Homefront America. The family BBQ and Christmas party were also wonderful events. My daughter and I had a great time interacting with the Marines and their families and I know the guests enjoyed themselves and felt appreciated. All of these events have been well run and organized. Great care is always taken in making sure all details were worked out to ensure that our military would feel appreciated and honored. I am writing to ask the city council to renew Homefront America's MOU for the 1/11 Battalion at the next city council meeting. We have volunteered in 2017 for over 25 hours each, for numerous philanthropy organizations that our Chapter supports. Our favorite volunteer times were those helping Homefront America. We served the 1/11 Marine Battalion and their families at the SummerNight concert at the Town Center Park and was able to experience first- hand volunteer work, baked and sold thousands of cookies at the lighting of the Christmas tree at the Town Center Park, and helped the Marine and spouse help choose Christmas presents for their children while our children dressed as Elves helped with photos with Santa for the whole family. We were showered with thanks and smiles. For all of the events we volunteered, I was especially impressed with the well-organized preparation that went into each of the events. Every detail was thought through, from proper request of the gifts, whether it be food to be served at the event for the Marines, cookies and their packages to be sold, presents to be given to the children, and even to taking care of the volunteers. The packing of the prepared items including the tent, to set-up, to cleaning and re-packing at the end of each event were all quick, organized, and effective. I have been involved in planning, preparation, facilitating and managing thousands of hours of various types of events and I must say that Homefront America, Mamie and all of her helpers have been on top of everything. Mamie is also very good at managing to make sure the smoothness of execution as well as taking care of unscheduled events and adjusting accordingly. > The events organized by Homefront America help the 1/11 Marines and their families, are very popular among the National Charity League Monarch chapter volunteers, so well organized, and fun events for the Marines and their families, event participants, and the volunteers. The thanks we receive as volunteers and the smiles we witness at their events says it all. This is all due to the dedication and love of everyone at Homefront America. > Please take my input into consideration in voting yes, to keep Homefront America continue its great work as main support for the 1/11 Marine Battalion. > Thank you very much > Sumiko Letourneau > Ms. Maria Morris, please forward this email to each of the council Members. i Matisse Reischl Subject: FW: Homefront America On Jan 8, 2018, at 9:35 AM, LisaMae Thompson wrote: To the Mayor of San Juan Capistrano, The Honorable Derek Reeve: It is my hope that the MOU will be reinstated for Homefront America to be the liaison for 1/11 Battalion. Thank you, Valinda Accetta Immediate Past President (2016-2017) National Charity League, Monarch Chapter Honorable Mayor and Members of the San Juan Capistrano City Council: As a 7-year member of National Charity League, Monarch Chapter, which is a mother-daughter organization that supports local philanthropies and meets monthly at the SJC Community Center, I want to bring to your attention the importance of renewing Homefront America's involvement in supporting the adopted 1st Battalion 11`" Marines. Their work is so amazing for our military families and we are proud to volunteer with our daughters to provide them the "arms and legs" for the many events they put on for our military heroes. I have attached a few photos of our members at Homefront events. Specifically, my daughters and I have been involved with the Heroes Night Out Event held in September—a formal affair in which we serve the guests, assist with the Silent Auction and our daughters watch their younger kids so the adults can enjoy the families. In fact at this event in 2016, I had the honor of receiving an award on behalf of our Chapter for our volunteer efforts. We also served at the Homefront America Easter event at Zoomars and we helped face paint the kids and participated in the Easter Egg Hunt, in addition to serving meals to the families. Every year, we bake lots of cookies that they can sell at the annual Tree Lighting event to support their activities as well. Our members thoroughly enjoy serving the military families and I must say that this is our most popular philanthropy. The volunteer signups are filled quickly because everyone wants to support our heroes—whether it's helping them pack backpacks for the kids at Camp Pendleton, or provide entertainment at the Halloween Trunks and Treats—Homefront America supports the entire military family unit and this is an excellent way to teach our daughters about service and the selfless sacrifices they have made. i We'd like to continue to support Homefront America at the many events it supports for the I" Battalion 111h Marines. As NCL members, we are honored and privileged to volunteer with this incredible organization to honor our military heroes. We hope that you'll vote to renew their service in this capacity.
