Subject: City Council Meeting, Agenda Item F: Administrative Items for Blenheim Facility Management
Hello,
I would like to pledge my support to renew the contract for Blenheim Facility Management, LLC in
tonight's City Council meeting.
Agenda Item:
F. ADMINISTRATIVE ITEMS:
1. CITY MANAGER
a. Consideration of an Interim Management Agreement with Blenheim Facility Management, LLC for
Management of Operations at the Rancho Mission Viejo Riding Park at San Juan Capistrano and
Appropriation Adjustment (600.30)
The Riding Park has previously hosted Olympic Equestrian Trials under the current management team. The
riding park is a jewel in San Juan, bringing people from around the world and significant revenue to the city and
local businesses. The people have spoken over and over again by showing up at City Council meetings to
pledge their support and show the importance of this park to the community.
The Economic Impact survey showed that equestrian activities bring in over $50 million dollars to the city
annually. The shows at the Riding Park are a significant contributor. Other cities understand the importance and
revenue brought in from equestrian activities and have built horse parks,.including Sonoma, Paso Robles,
Thermal and more.
In addition to horse shows, which are free to the public, there are also soccer matches, the annual Two Stepping
Under the Stars, rodeo and many more activities at the park that are expertly managed by Blenheim. The park is
always open to the public. I have ridden my horse at the park many times and have always been welcomed. I
have always seen non horse people at the park with their dogs and families enjoying the open space.
It would be a shame to not renew the contract because a couple of people are against the riding park and have
done everything possible to stop it. The vast majority of people at Ctiy Council meetings have been pro riding
park. Very few have spoken against it.
I hope that the City Council approves a long term contract with Blenheim Facility Management, LLC to
continue managing this unique asset to the city.
Sincerely,
Laura Taylor
