Hi Donna,
May I ask you to clarify a few things?
You wrote: "but our city council; with the exception of Pam Patterson, is in agreement with this tragedy." When
have I made any comment about this project?
You wrote: "Councilmembers are elected to protect the interest of our town, not a friend down the street who is
a developer or land owner." Who are you talking about?
You wrote: "Eventually everyone will know you owed a favor and so you cast a vote to rezone the Ito
property." What 'favor' are you referring to?
You have also written some interesting comments elsewhere on social media. For example you wrote: "I am
shocked to hear that two of the people I campaigned for are pushing this rezone through with the "blue ribbon"
process." Who is 'pushing' this rezone and what is a 'blue ribbon' process?
You also wrote: "We went through a complete over haul of CC members about 4 years ago. A couple have been
great. Some have gone to the dark side. Recently a city council member was threatened." Which
councilmembers have gone to the dark side, what does that mean, and who was threatened?
Finally, you wrote: "If you really care about truthfulness you should do a research on San Juan Capistrano, the
drought, and corruption in city hall." What are you referring to when you write 'corruption?' If you have
evidence or any indication of corruption, I would like to provide this information to our city attorney forthwith.
Thank you for your email. I look forward to your response.
Your public servant,
Derek Reeve

Hello residents and councilmembers,
Please come to the city council meeting on Tuesday November 7th and express your opinion about the possible rezone of
the Ito property in Los Rios. Los Rios is the oldest community in California. Not just in San Juan Capistrano, but the whole
state. The very thought that it could become a mall with 300 parking spaces on Del Obispo seems impossible, but our
city council; with the exception of Pam Patterson, is in agreement with this tragedy.
If you care about preserving our history, traffic congestion, and preservation of our "old time" spaces like Los
Rios, please attend the city council meeting and voice your opinion.
When you take a position on the city council you agree to serve "the town". Councilmembers are elected to protect the
interest of our town, not a friend down the street who is a developer or land owner. You cannot serve the best interest
of the people if you owe favors to developers, friends or family. When you vote as a councilmember you have to put
your friends and family aside, because you are voting for what is best for our town, not what is best for the one person
who did you a favor.
You cannot justify casting your vote for a rezone on a property designated low density commercial and if you do justify
it; it is only in your head, not in your heart. Eventually everyone will know you owed a favor and so you cast a vote to
rezone the Ito property. Do you want to go down in the history of San Juan Capistrano as one of the city
councilmembers who voted for a mall in Los Rios because he/she owed someone a favor?
We voted for you all because we wanted to put a halt to overdevelopment and the fact that you are even considering
this rezone is tragic.
The vote at this meeting will officially move the Los Rios project forward for the possible eventual approval in the future.
My husband and I moved our family to San Juan and my kids grew up here. When the dismissal bell rang at Marco
Forrester my kids took off across the field, through the canyon, over the back fence and within seven minutes they
had drinks and snacks and were assembled with neighbor kids on my family room floor. When it was time for
dinner, moms would call and say "send my kid home". Those were great times. The canyon is gone
now; developers took it along with hundreds of trees. Once you allow a developer to take our precious places,
they can never be resurrected.
The description of the Ito land is "Low density commercial district, the purpose and intent is to provide for low intensity
commercial uses that reinforce the rural character of the Los Rios area and will not alter the existing topography. Such
uses will require minimal permanent structures, low lighting intensity, and will generate minimal parking demand".
Do not let developers buy this land.
Thank you.
